Update: Our Current Book Publications

Update: Our Next Book Publications

As we get occasional inquiries about particular book publications which we have mentioned in the past, we thought it would be a good idea to give you an update on what is happening behind the scenes in our "book department":

Our latest publications:

IBS3

The IBS3 exhibition catalogues are available!

In the Sun

As most of you know, Quilt around the World is a tiny company. We publish our books through a self-publishing company who print them digitally and on demand. This procedure significantly reduces our financial risk. The downside is that colour pages increase the final book price considerably. As so many quilters kindly lent us their quilts (over 80 pieces!) we found that the many required colour pages would make one thick catalogue very costly for you to purchase.
We therefore decided to split the IBS3 catalogue into two smaller volumes so that every participant who wants to own at least the volume with her/his own quilt need not spend too much money.

There are three products for you to choose from:

In the Sun 1 - IBS3 Quilts on Tour (containing all exhibition quilts belonging to the teams Andromeda to Orion)

In the Sun 2 - IBS3 Quilts on Tour (containing all exhibition quilts belonging to the teams Pavo  to Ursa)

In the Sun 1 & 2 - Exhibition Special (consisting of the two books In the Sun 1 and In the Sun 2)

In the Sun

Order the books from our webshop - these editions do not have an IBSN number (yet) and cannot be ordered from regular bookshops.

Making Waves - IBS2

Yes, there is still an open item for IBS2! We have promised a separate book covering the 23 wave panels featuring all donated blocks from our IBS2 participants along with some insights and photos of our Travelling Exhibition which ended in March 2016 with our glorious trip to the International Quilt Festival in Sitges, Spain, organized by the Spanish Quilt Guild.

Making Waves

We didn't want to make another catalogue and just put one wave panel photo after the other, so we chose one aspect from each panel and focused on specific techniques, motifs and methods to translate the water theme in various ways. These aspects are illustrated by one block from the respective panel, accompanied by blocks from other panels which are in some way related to the chosen aspect.

Here a taster taken from the Amazon chapter:

As you can imagine, it takes a considerable amount of time and effort to realize such a concept, but here at Quilt around the World, we prefer challenges to the easy way out! ;-)

The book has 156 pages, thereof ca. 70 colour pages showing ALL 171 IBS2 blocks plus the 23 wave panels which make up the community quilt "Water for the World". Read the stories and see pictures of all the places the IBS2 quilts travelled to.

All exercises follow a red thread through art history. In 18 chapters (and a previously unpublished) bonus chapter, the design elements of different eras in art history are analyzed and used as basis for intriguing and amusing design exercises.

Water Variations - Michaela Mosmüller's First Book in English

For over a year now, our German speaking readers have been familiar with the German version of Michaela Mosmüller's first book showing different techniques to translate the various moods and and appearances of the element water into intriguing textile surfaces. In spring 2017, we'll have the English version ready for publication.

Where do you come from?

We don't want to reveal too much but this book publication will honour all our participants of this extraordinary community project and weave together all the background stories and the quilters‘ inspiration together into an imaginative narrative including many photos of the block motifs as well as the large community quilt.

We will add a link to our webshop as soon as this book is in (pre-)order status.

We will of course keep you updated on any future book projects and let you know once the titles above become available - either in book or quilt shops around the corner or in our webshop!
