For the original Rot-Weiss quilt, we used a commercial quilting stencil which looks like the cross of four Fleur de Lys, a very French symbol.There are many beautiful stencils out there which would be suitable for this quilt. Choose a self contained motif appropriate for machine quilting (no “over-under-effects” as is frequently the case e. g. in Celtic designs)...

In the end, we decided on “Zooming in” although it should be more appropriately named “Zooming in and out again”. We hope that it will become clearer from the following instructions why this longer title would more aptly describe the pattern...

Herzstück

Herzstück

As with the Spitzenstücke quilt, the name of its quilting pattern is also a play on words in German. Herzstück could be interpreted as “heart piece”, but usually denotes the core of something. The inspiration came from the patterns on the fabrics we used in the quilt which were created by Sunprinting. The faux lace created very interesting contrasts on the fabrics and by outline quilting them, this contrast was even more emphasized resulting in a 3D effect...
