For some years, fabric manufacturers have offered precut fabric strips, also known as Jelly Rolls. One of these tempting rolls fell into our hands last time we went fabric hunting.

Precut fabric strips can be used for many patterns, e. g. Log Cabins, Rail Fence blocks or for making a Lasagna quilt which has become very popular recently in Europe. Here, we present an interesting alternative use of Jelly Rolls: An abstract geometric „ColourPlay“ design for a triptych wallhanging solely made with precut fabric strips and inspired by the famous Bauhaus artists and architects.

The project needs 2 1/2“ wide strips cut from at least 24 different fabrics covering several colour groups with at least two fabrics for each colour. Please see the last page for more information on colour choices and „safety margins“ for cutting errors. We suggest that you use bali fabrics or solids (i.e. fabrics with two good sides).

Size of each panel:

ca. 12“ x 40“ (ca. 30 cm  x 100 cm)

Difficulty:

Intermediate
